Vasco D. B. Bonifácio, PhD

Prof. Vasco D.B. Bonifácio graduated in Chemical Engineering (1995) and Applied Chemistry – Organic Chemistry major (1997) and holds a PhD in Chemistry – specialty in Organic Chemistry (2006). After a post-doctorate in Molecular Electronics in Germany, he was an Assistant Researcher and Invited Professor of the MIT Portugal Program – Bioengineering Systems focus area. Currently is Professor of Biomaterials at the Bioengineering Department at IST. He was a Guest Scientist at MIT (USA) and U. de Bordeaux (France). In 2017 he received the “Advanced Materials Science Medal”. He was the first to develop a sustainable synthesis of dendrimers. His actual research is focused on the development of nanotheranostics using dendrimers (novel antimicrobial, anticancer and diagnostic agents), and mechanosynthesis of APIs.
