João Almeida Lopes, PhD

João Almeida Lopes has a BSc and PhD in Chemical Engineering (IST, Univ. of Lisbon). His research activity focused on process systems engineering with emphasis on bioprocesses and pharmaceutical processes. He specialized on chemometrics and process analytical technology in the context of medicines manufacturing. Between 2006 and 2013 he headed the Chemometrics&PAT research group at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Univ. of Porto (REQUIMTE Associate Laboratiry). From 2014, he’s assistant Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Lisbon. He develops activity on innovative pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and acts as consultant for multiple pharma companies. He published more than 140 scientific papers and supervised more than 80 MSc and PhD thesis (h-index=34). He headed multiple I&D projects over the years both with public and private funding at the national level and international level. He heads the Pharmaceutical Engineering and Manufacturing Lab at the research center iMed.ULisboa. He’s currently President of the Portuguese Association for Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPCF), President of the Analytical Division of the Portuguese Chemical Society (SPQ), member of the steering committee of the PAT&QbD network of EUFEPS member of the Chemometrics Study Group of EuChemMS. He was President of the Portuguese Association of Researchers of Science and Technology (ANICT) and member of the Voice of Researchers initiative of the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (RTD) of the European Commission.
