Professor Isabel Sá-Correia
Isabel Sá-Correia is Distinguished Full Professor of Biological Sciences and the founder of this scientific area at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). She is Directive Board member and Head of the Biological Sciences Research Group of the Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences (iBB). A Chemical Engineering graduate (1975, IST), Prof Sá-Correia evolved her field of training and activity to Biological Sciences. She is the Coordinator of the Ph.D. Program in Biotechnology and Biosciences, IST (since 2008) and Director of the FCT funded doctoral program BIOTECnico (since 2015). She Coordinated the Masters´ Programs in Microbiology (2013-2020), Biotechnology (2008 and 2018) and the 5 year-bachelor degree / Integrated Master degree in Biological Engineering (1997 and 2011). She is member of the General Council of Universidade de Lisboa, the IST Ethics Committee, and the IST School Assembly. She was President of the Portuguese Society of Microbiology (2009-2020).
Professor Sá-Correia research activities are in the fields of Molecular and Cellular Microbiology and Functional and Comparative Genomics with impact in Microbial Biotechnology and Human Health. Current programs focus on i) Physiological Genomics of the Stress Response and Tolerance in Yeasts and Bacteria ii) Circular Bio-based Economy. With current h indexes 50-WOS, 67-Google Scholar, she integrates the lists of the most cited scientists´ worldwide (Stanford Univ, 2020, 2021). She was mentor of 18 researchers with PhD and main advisor of 30 PhD theses and 70 MSc theses.
