Helena Pereira de Melo, PhD

    Professor Helena Pereira de Melo graduated in Law from the University of Coimbra and subsequently completed a post-graduation in European Union Law and a Master’s Degree in Law from the University of Lisbon Law School. In 2005, she obtained her PhD degree from the NOVA School of Law.

    Between 2009 and 2018, she was Assistant Director of NOVA School of Law, where she also teaches Constitutional Law, Health and Bioethics Law and Social Equality Law.

    Professor Helena Pereira de Melo is also the president of Abio – Association dedicated to research, teaching and dissemination of bioethics, and vice president of the Portuguese Bioethics Association. In addition, she teaches subjects on the European Master in Human Rights and Democratization, organized by the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratization, and has also published several books and articles on bio-rights and women’s rights issues.
