Gonçalo Fernando

    Gonçalo Fernando holds a BSc in Marine Biology from the University of Algarve and an MSc in Biotechnology from IST. In 2019, he began exploring the field of Cellular Agriculture at IST, aiming to launch a cultivated seafood startup. He later joined The Good Food Institute (GFI) as a Research Fellow, focusing on co-authoring scaling manuals for Alternative Proteins and peer-reviewed articles on cultivated meat and seafood. He advised PhD students and startup founders on alternative protein technologies before joining Oxford-based start-up Ivy Farm Technologies as a Scientist in Media Development, where he developed cost-effective serum-free media for cultivated meat. He’s actively engaged in the alternative protein community,  reviewing cellular agriculture grant applications and facilitating courses on alternative proteins for Cambridge University Alt. Protein Society. He is now undertaking his PhD in Bioengineering at IST.
