Prof. Sónia Ventura
With an Integrated Master’s degree completed in 2007 and a Ph.D. in 2011 in the field of Chemical Engineering from the University of Aveiro.
Her research focuses on Marine Biorefinery. It essentially focuses on the creation of new extraction and purification processes (using alternative solvents) of bioactive compounds from different renewable raw materials, with algae being the highlight. More recently, she has also been working (in partnership with various research groups and companies) on the development of new products from the extracts obtained through the processes she develops.
She is an Assistant Professor with Aggregation at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Aveiro; Deputy Director of the Department of Chemistry in the areas of Internationalization, Collaboration with Industry, and Interaction with Society; and Coordinator of Group 4 (Renewable Materials and Circular Economy) at the Aveiro Materials Institute (CICECO).
