Prof. Francisco Couto
Francisco Couto earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science with a specialization in Bioinformatics from the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Lisbon and is a professor in the Department of Informatics at the same institution. In 2017, he received an honorable mention, and in 2018, the prize from the ULisboa/Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) Scientific Awards. His research covers various relevant aspects of bioinformatics, knowledge management, and information retrieval, with an emphasis on biomedical applications. He develops innovative models to incorporate information from biomedical ontologies into large-scale linguistic models, as well as biological network generation systems with interactions extracted from scientific literature to enhance understanding of complex biological systems, including studies on diseases such as autism. In 2019, he published the book “Data and Text Processing for Health and Life Sciences.”
