Marcelo Silva, PhD
Marcelo Silva received is M.Sc. degree in Biological Engineering in 2013 from Técnico Lisboa (IST). During his thesis, he joined the group of dr. Filip Logist, at K.U. Leuven, where he studied the application of optimal experimental design for the discrimination between CTMI and aCTMI microbial growth models. In 2014, he moved to the Netherlands to pursue his Ph.D. at the Technical University of Delft, in the group of dr. ir. Marcel Ottens, working on different downstream process alternatives for the capture and purification of polyphenols produced by fermentation. From 2019-Sep. 2022, he worked as a Process Design Specialist for Corbion, The Netherlands, focusing on process development and optimization and process techno-economic analysis. Since Oct. 2022, he joined MicroHarvest as a Sr. Process Design Specialist, being involved in the process development for bacterial single cell protein and, more recently, in setting up the company’s pilot plant in Lisbon.
