Dr. Joana Miranda
Joana Miranda has a PhD degree in Biochemistry/Biotechnology from ITQB NOVA Lisboa and since 2009 has been an assistant researcher/invited professor at the FF.ULisboa/iMed.ULisboa. She works in the field of tissue engineering and alternative methods for drug testing, with research focusing on the development of 3D in vitro cultures of hepatocytes or human MSCs for in vitro toxicology and cell therapy applications, publishing in the field for almost 10 years. In particular, 3D hepatocytes and human HLC cultures are used for drug safety and biotransformation studies. Moreover, aggregation strategies of MSCs are also employed for priming cells towards an enhanced potential for cellular therapies such as skin regeneration. Joana Miranda is a member of the Sociedade Portuguesa de Farmacologia (SPF) and of the Sociedade Portuguesa de Células Estaminais e Terapia Celular (SPCE-TC). Currently, she is the coordinator of the Toxicology Section of SPF and of the Portuguese Register of Toxicologists (ERT – European Registered Toxicologist – EUROTOX). Since 2010 Joana Miranda has participated in 9 funded projects (4 as PI). She also authored over 34 peer-reviewed articles, 3 patents, 3 book chapters, 26 published abstracts, 7 invited lectures, 34 oral communications and 60 posters.
