Dr. Isabel Henriques

Isabel Henriques earned her MSc in Molecular Microbiology in 2001 and her PhD in Biology in 2006 from the University of Aveiro, Portugal. She is an assistant researcher at the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies at the University of Aveiro, where she coordinates the thematic research line “Environmental Biology and Health” and the “Microbial and Cell Biology Lab”. Her research has been oriented to the study of antibiotic resistance ecology. Resistance to beta-lactams has been one of the main research focus as well as the study of horizontal gene transfer, particularly mediated by plasmids and integrons. She participated in the design and implementation of a database that provides access to integron’s DNA sequences. She coordinated national and transnational research projects aiming to tackle antibiotic resistance dispersion in rivers and other aquatic systems.
