Dr. Laura Monteiro

Laura Monteiro has a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Engineering (2004) and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (2015) from IST (Instituto Superior Técnico).
After a brief stint at Hikma Pharmaceuticals early in her career in 2005, working as a Quality Assurance Technician, she devoted herself to Research and Development at the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering (LNEC), where she worked for the following 10 years. At LNEC, she conducted scientific research activities in the area of drinking water quality, including the study of biofilms and the development of kinetic models for residual chlorine decay.
She was a researcher at CERIS – Civil Engineering Research and Innovation for Sustainability at IST (2015-2021), where she focused on studying the water and energy efficiency of drinking water supply systems, as well as hydraulic and water quality modeling in these systems. She participated in consultancy studies on water efficiency and the reuse of treated wastewater.
Since 2021, she has been a Senior Research and Development Project Manager at A4F – Algae 4 Future, where she is responsible for securing funding for R&D projects. She is also supervising a Ph.D. student in the area of urban wastewater treatment using microalgae systems.
