Rita Serra (MSc)
Rita Serra, graduated in Cellular and Molecular Biology from NOVA University Lisbon and currently a master’s student in Extreme Environments Biology at the University of Naples Federico II, has a great passion for Astrobiology. With her feet on Earth but her head on the Moon, she studies extremophilic organisms as proxies for life on other celestial bodies.
She has previously worked with Arctic microalgae at Instituto Superior de Agronomia and is now studying microorganisms inhabiting the depths of the Earth’s crust, exploring their astrobiological applications. Her focus on space led her to the European Space Agency summer school where she deepened her knowledge of gravity, designing a project on seed germination in the Large Diameter Centrifuge.
