Eng. Catarina Costa
MSc (Biological Engineering) and PhD student
Hello, I’m Catarina, I’m 28 years old, and I completed my Integrated Master’s degree in Biological Engineering in 2018. During my time at IST, I was a member of AEIST and NEB, which allowed me to develop knowledge and advantageous soft skills for my career. I also completed two summer internships in different laboratories, which allowed me to explore various scientific topics, but more importantly, the world of research. Currently, I’m developing my Ph.D. project at the Champalimaud Foundation, in the Department of Physiology and Cancer, under the guidance of Dr. Eduardo Moreno and Dr. Christa Rhiner. Using the fruit fly as a model organism, I’m studying a cellular competition mechanism that we know is important in different processes such as aging, regeneration, cancer, or Alzheimer’s.
