Rita Martins started her academic path in FCUL where she graduated in Genetics and Molecular Biology. During the bachelor’s degree she won a research scholarship in the biological chemistry field and worked in molecular simulation for a year at ITQB and spent one semester in Turin, Italy, under the Erasmus programme. She then decides to do her master’s degree in Biotechnology at IST, with a thesis focused on the expansion of human neural stem cells derived from pluripotent stem cells. While at IST, Rita was a member of BEST Lisbon where she was organizer of several event as well as marketing coordinator. Due to the desire of a career in the business field, she decided to continue studying and enrolled in a management double degree with NOVA SBE and LUISS (Rome, Italy). After working in a videogames startup and in the family business (medical clinic), Rita joined the Management Trainee Programme at Jerónimo Martins where she has been working since 2015, first as deputy store manager and now as project manager in the Operations department.
