Pedro Baptista, PhD
Pedro Viana Baptista (PVB) graduated from Faculdade Farmácia, Universidade de Lisboa in 1996. He then attained his PhD in Human Molecular Genetics from the School of Pharmacy, University of London (2000), after which he started at Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (FCT-NOVA) and created the Nanotheranostics Group focused on the use of nanotechnology for gene expression studies and molecular diagnostics. Nowadays, the Group has moved towards therapeutics – Nanomedicine@FCT – and is part of UCIBIO (Research Unit in Biomolecular Sciences).
PVB is now Full Professor of Life Sciences – Molecular Genetics & Nanomedicine at Dept Life Sciences, FCT, UNL and coordinates the Nanomedicine Group focused on i) biofunctionalization of nanoparticles with targeting and silencing moieties and their application in drug delivery and/or gene silencing; ii) assessment of toxicology impact of nanoparticles in in vivo models; iii) development of nanobiosensors and microfluidic devices for diagnostic applications.
Derived from his core research, PVB is co-founder and CSO of a nanodiagnostics Startup Nano4 Global Lda.
