Sara Gomes, PhD

Dr. Sara Gomes (Master’s in Biotechnology, 2013-2015) is a scientist at bit.bio, a fast-growing biotech company featured by The Times and Forbes in 2020. After graduating from IST, Sara completed her PhD in Wuerzburg (Germany), where she established an in vitro model of iPSC-derived brain endothelial cells for infection studies of meningitis. Her interest towards iPSC research motivated her to move to Cambridge (UK) in 2019 to join bit.bio. Since joining, she has led a collaboration project with Netherlands-based company Meatable to develop animal stem cell-derived cultivated meat. She is currently establishing iPSC-derived human cells for drug discovery screens and clinical purposes.
