Dr. Cristina Barrias

Cristina Barrias graduated in Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP, 1997), got her PhD in Engineering Sciences in the field of Biomaterials & Regenerative Medicine (2005, UP), and then did a post-doc at INEB (Instituto de Engenharia Biomédica, UP) in collaboration with the University of Nevada-Reno. Currently she is Principal Investigator at i3S/INEB (Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde/INEB, UP)), and also Invited Associate Professor at Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar (ICBAS, UP) and at FEUP. She is the coordinator of the Bioengineered 3D Microenvironments Group at i3S/INEB, and her work has been mainly focused on the development of molecularly-designed hydrogels that mimic the natural extracellular matrix, to be used as advanced 3D-models for in vitro cell culture or as injectable vehicles for cell transplantation therapies.
