Professor Leonilde Moreira got her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry at Faculty of Science and Technology in University of Coimbra in 1990. In 1993, Leonilde Moreira finished her M.Sc. in Biotechnology (Biochemical Engineering) at Instituto Superior Técnico and later she did a PhD in Biotechnology which she completed in 1997 at the same institution. Leonilde’s professional career started in 1997, as post-doctoral researcher at University of Bielefeld, Germany. Since 1999, Leonilde Moreira is an assistant professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, where she teaches at the Department of Bioengineering subjects such as General Microbiology and Genetic Engineering. Her research interests cover several facets of bacteria-host interactions, particularly related to the pathogenesis of Burkholderia cepacia complex bacteria and the beneficial root-symbiosis nitrogen fixation bacteria.
