Catarina finished her Integrated MSc in Biological Engineering at IST in 2012. Later that year she was accepted in the Evolutionary Biology Group (EvB) at Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC) under Isabel Gordo’s supervision. In the following years she worked in several projects such as: antibiotic resistance, defense/evasion mechanisms in Escherichia coli, the genetic context responsible for the fitness impact of codon usage in a gene in different environments, and adaptive traits of E. coli to the mouse gut. In 2016 Catarina Pinto changed groups and start working at the Bacterial Signalling Group (BAS) under Karina Xavier’s supervision, also at IGC. Nowadays she’s using NMR analysis on animal samples to link evolutionary traits of E. coli to the abundance/presence of metabolites in the mice gut.
